Master Craig is pleased to announce that the new Tai Chi class has commenced.

Classes in Yang Chang Fu and Yang Lu Chan Tai Chi forms are available under Ron Hassarati a member of Erle Montaigue's World Tai Chi Boxing Association.

Classes are held every Thursday from 6:00pm - 7:30pm

Cacoy Doce Pares 5th World Eskrima/Arnis Championships

The ECDPI team of Master Craig, John Anthony, Aaron Ocampo and Deogracias Avila has returned from the 5th World Eskrima/Arnis Championships held in Cebu 24th-26th April.

The tournament was a great success with more than 120 competitors competing in forms, single stick, double stick and kulata divisions. The Australian contigent comprising representatives from ICMAA (Adelaide) ECDPI amd Reflex Gym (Wollongong) took out 2nd place in the overall medal tally with a haul of 11 Gold, 12 Silver and 11 Bronze medals.

Master Craig was again successful in the 40-49 yrs Kulata Challenge taking Gold in this open weght category. Silver medal went to one time ECDPI member (now residing in Cebu) Mick Barker. With no competitors in the 40-49 year lightweight division, Master Craig fought in the middle weight division of the single stick sparring event and received the bronze medal.

John Anthony took fourth place in the mens 40-49 heavy weight division after fighting arguably two of the divisions best fighters. This was an excellent effort for his first outing at such a large event.

With out a doubt, Aaron Ocampo and Deogracias Avila were matched in one of the toughest categories, the 18-29 lightweight division. Both contested the single stick and double stick events against Filipino opponents but were unable to reach the medal rounds.

Having traveled to Cebu two months in advance to stay with family, Deogracias surprised Master Craig with an entry to the forms (Sayaw) competitions. Master Craig is very proud of the effort and initiative shown and was impressed by his innovative forms.

ITS ON AGAIN

The Cacoy Doce Pares World Federation - 2009 World Championships will be held at the City Sports Club, Cebu Business Park, Cebu Philippines 24th,25th & 26th April 2009.

Join Master Craig either as support or as a participant at this great event.

There will be a formal welcome dinner at the Cacoy Doce Pares World Federation HQ on 23rd April with the main event starting on 24th.

December 2008 BIG WEEKEND

The Big Weekend went off with out a hitch and was well received by all.

Saturday 13 December saw 34 students enjoy a great seminar with GM Anthony Kleeman.
John Anthony was particularly fortunate to feel the big man's awesome technique and skills in Kilat, Eskrido and Pangamot.

Sunday 14th saw the ECDPI's biggest ever grading with 17 students testing on the day. Congratulations go to Joash Republica who successfully endured the rigorous Black Belt test and for the first time in ECDPI history a student got to spar with brother, sister and father as part of the test.

In a display of brotherly love, Joash and Francis went toe to toe in a 2 1/2 minute dog fight before John Anthony stepped in for more punishment to complete the 5 minute test of charater and courage.

Cacoy Doce Pares Hall of Fame

Master Craig Bajraktarevic-Hayward and Dorota Skibinski have just returned from the 2008 Doce Pares Hall of Fame and Masters Seminars held in Cebu.

The three day event saw students, Masters and Grandmasters gather to share knowledge and witness the induction of many of Grandmaster Cacoy Canete's loyal followers into the first Doce Pares Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame Ceremony was held on the evening of 8th March following a second full day of Seminars conducted by luminaries such Great Grandmaster Cacoy Canete, Grandmaster Richard Bustillo, Grandmaster Jun Cautiverio, Grandmaster Anthony Kleeman and Grandmaster Vince Palumbo. The seminars covered a range of techniques from Eskrima, Jeet Kun Do, Boxing, Kilat and Pangamot.

The Hall of Fame Ceremony was held at the Holiday Plaza Hotel and many of the guests wore traditional Barong in keeping with the formal nature of the event. Among the inductees, Master Craig Bajraktarevic-Hayward accepted the award for Doce Pares School of the Year on behalf of the Sydney based East Coast Doce Pares Institute. The school received further recognition when Dorota Skibinski was awarded as Most Valuable Student of the Year.

Congratulations to all inductees on their achievements and thanks to all students at E.C.D.P.I. whose efforts have contributed to this success.

3rd Annual Cacoy Doce Pares World Championships

The 3rd Annual Cacoy Doce Pares World Championships were held at the Cebu Coliseum on 24th, 25th and 26th November. The event was a great success, building on its humble beginnings with over one hundred competitors from Philippines, Poland, Indonesia, Australia, Great Britain and U.S.A.

The Philippines took first place on the medal tally with Australia a creditable second with 20 medals and a squad 1/3 the size of its hosts.

East Coast Doce Pares was repesented by Master Craig Bajraktarevic-Hayward and Scott Dent from the Sun Moon School in Woolongong. Both trained hard for three months leading up to the event with Scott making weekly trips to Sydney for rigorous training and sparring sessions with Master Craig.

The preparation certainly paid off with the pair taking 5 medals. Master Craig won gold in the 40-49 year lightweight single stick, lightweight double stick and Master Edgar Canete Kulata Challenge. Scott also won gold in the 18-39 year super middleweight single stick category and narrowly lost in the final of the double stick contest.

Master Craig was particularly happy with his win in the inaugural Master Edgar Canete 'Kulata' Challenge, an event staged in honour of the late Master Edgar Canete, son of Grandmaster Ciriaco 'Cacoy' Canete. The event was open to all contestants of the age group, with no weight restricted categories, and only limited armour (no body protection). The elimination rounds were 1 x 1 minute fast and brutal rounds, with the final contested as a 2 x 30 second bout.

The final could have been considered a mis-match with the 57kg, 148cm Master Craig pitted against long time mentor and friend 110kg, 190cm Master Anthony Kleeman. The fight was fast and Master Craig took the ascendancy with a disarm in round one, setting up a must win second round for the bigger opponent, fortunately Master Craig was able to hang on and the judges scored the bout in his favour.

The International Combative Martial Arts Academy from Adelaide made up the bulk of the Australian contingent with Master Vince Palumbo (head of Cacoy Doce Pares Australia) and Andrea Wheatley the most successful with 3 gold and 2 gold medals respectively.

The next tournament is planned for Jakarta in September 2007 and Master Craig urges all ECDPI students to train hard and prepare for ann even bigger event next year.
